HOLLYWOOD — Feb. 23 was a big night for fat jokes, as Showtime unspooled two segs of “Fat Actress” at the appropriately widescreen Cinerama Dome.
Showtime’s high hopes for the skein, which preemed nearly an hour after call time, were expressed by topper Matt Blank, who said, “Networks are always looking for a water cooler show; this is one better, it’s a refrigerator show.”
Star Kirstie Alley — who has shed 20 pounds since filming — said the show is ultimately concerned with “being neurotic about whatever,” not just weight.
“People say, ‘What if she gets thin?’ ” said the cabler’s Robert Greenblatt. “Fat is just the way in. If all the episodes are only about weight, we’d run out of steam.”
