Known as the Big Mack, this master marketer has fashioned West End hits into Broadway behemoths.

In the process, Mackintosh gave the Great White Way its two longest-running tuners, “Cats” and “The Phantom of the Opera,” and a couple of others that also performed very nicely, thank you: “Miss Saigon” and “Les Miserables.” Those four tuners essentially rebuilt the road, providing a boon to national theater subscriptions throughout the 1990s and beyond.

Up next, Mackintosh partners with Disney to bring “Mary Poppins” to Broadway in 2006.
