Cameron Mackintosh

Legit Icons of the Century

Known as the Big Mack, this master marketer has fashioned West End hits into Broadway behemoths.

In the process, Mackintosh gave the Great White Way its two longest-running tuners, “Cats” and “The Phantom of the Opera,” and a couple of others that also performed very nicely, thank you: “Miss Saigon” and “Les Miserables.” Those four tuners essentially rebuilt the road, providing a boon to national theater subscriptions throughout the 1990s and beyond.

Up next, Mackintosh partners with Disney to bring “Mary Poppins” to Broadway in 2006.
