BMI strums praises for its tribe

Simon feted at annual dinner

HOLLYWOOD — BMI handed out the kudos last week, with its annual pop music dinner May 17, followed by its film and television composers fete the next night at Regent BevWilshire.

Career achievement film and TV honoree Graeme Revell, a New Zealand native, shared anecdotes from a career that began as a music therapist at a mental hospital and included early stints in a punk band.

He compared working at the mental hospital to working in Hollywood, saying, “There’s more psychopathology in this town than anywhere else.”

The pop music dinner feted Paul Simon, who received musical tributes from the likes of Brian Wilson and Maroon 5.
