All rise for producers

Q&A holds up in Gotham court

WHAT: Producers Guild of America East’s “The Night of the Producer” Oct. 25.

WHO: Two Q&A sessions with television producer Linda Ellerbee, moderated by HBO’s Sheila Nevins; and with film producer David Brown, moderated by fellow film producer David Picker.

WHY? Event was spawned as a means of paying tribute to New York-based producers whose work has both left its mark on the entertainment industry and demonstrated the key role played by Gotham as a thriving base of media production.

WHERE: PGA skipped the rubber-chicken dinner and cut right to the chase — two 45- minute conversations with honorees held in a courtroom at the Surrogate’s Court Building in Gotham.

PRODUCERS ON PRODUCING: “Being a producer is learning how to accept rejection on a 24-hour basis,” Brown told the audience. “The unpredictability of the business excites and frightens me because you never know when you have a hit — and you always know when you have a flop.”
