2005 CFDA Awards

Don’t call Barry Diller a fashion hound. The InterActiveCorp topper may have effortlessly mingled with Gotham’s style set at the recent CFDA Awards (think of it as the Oscars of fashion), but when asked whether he follows the collections, Diller answered with a definitive, “No. A lot of these people I like very much, but I’m here for my wife. I’m here for the best.” That would be Diane von Furstenberg, who took home the lifetime-achievement kudo.

The Dillers were only one of numerous power couples uniting fashion and Hollywood inside the New York Public Library’s Astor Hall. Others in attendance included Sarah Michelle Gellar and Max Azria; Damon Dash and his designing wife, Rachel Roy; Emmy Rossum and Peter Som; and Joan Allen and nominee Michael Kors, who vamped, “I’ve got two at home, and I’d love a third.”

Unfortunately for Kors, Vera Wang took home top honors for womenswear, while John Varvatos snagged the menswear award. In addition, kudos were given to Kate Moss (Award for Fashion Influence) and iconic designer Norma Kamali (Board of Directors Special Tribute), who joked, “The good news is you’ve won this fabulous award. The bad news is you have to come and pick it up.”

Also among the sea of sharp dressers were Claire Danes, Liev Schreiber, Catherine Deneuve, Anna Wintour and Sean “P. Diddy” Combs. Even Harvey Weinstein made an appearance, chatting up Dash at the after-party.
