Pumpkinheads, the children's boutique-meets-charitable org, donates 15% to local charities

WHO: Children’s boutique-meets-charitable org Pumpkinheads.

WHAT: The store donates 15% of all sales to a rotation of local children’s charities. It opened Thursday in Brentwood’s Town & Country Shopping Center.

WHY: Pumpkinheads (slogan: “A Real Change in Children’s Clothing”) aims to marry profitable business with community involvement. Owner Jamara Ghalayini will choose two new orgs for the program every three months.

First on tap are Art Share Los Angeles, which houses art exhibitions, workshops and classroom space in its downtown warehouse, and Operation School Bell, which provides new clothing, shoes and grooming items to needy children.

Morgan Freeman and online auctioneer Charity Folks have organized an auction to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The auction opens today and runs until Sept. 16. All proceeds go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund (800-HELP-NOW).
