Endeavor is going into the comedy booking business.
Longtime comic tenpercenter Conan Smith has just joined the agency and will be based in the agency’s talent and marketing offices in New York.
While he’ll work closely with Endeavor’s agents to help comedians and comedic writers transition to film and television, Smith will also be working with the agency’s marketing and commercial divisions to expand opportunities for new and existing clients.
“I like to find talent when it’s right off the turnip truck,” Smith told Daily Variety, “and New York is where you will find the fresher comic talents. I’m excited to be part of an agency that recognizes the importance of this part of the business.”
Smith added that a Gotham access point to comics is just the prescription for what ails primetime TV.
“With all these sitcoms failing, they’re what’s needed right now,” said Smith.
As a comedian rep, Smith’s focus includes personal appearances, commercials and transitioning talent into television.
Smith most recently worked at the Agency Group. Before that he was with the William Morris Agency for 14 years, focusing on standup comics and working with clients like Ray Romano, Colin Quinn, Robert Klein, Susie Essman and Tom Papa among others.
