‘Noche’ sez hola to host

De la Fuente set to lead Univision's latenight run

Leading U.S. Hispanic net Univision is jumping into the latenight arena, tapping Latino thesp Cristian de la Fuente to host “Ay, que noche!” (Oh, What a Night).

New format, which debuts early next year, will feature stage acts, celebrity interviews, man-on-the-street segments and Latin musical acts.

With this new show, Univision hopes to redefine latenight programming on Spanish-language television, much as it did for the morning daypart when it launched its successful “Despierta America.”

“I also plan to incorporate some elements of ‘Saturday Night Live,’ ” de la Fuente told Daily Variety.

De la Fuente was chosen after an extensive search by Univision. He has starred in pics including “Basic,” “Driven” and “Vampires: Los Muertos.” He also appears on Univision daytime telenovela “Sonar no cuesta nada.”

Thesp, a former pilot in the Chilean air force, was chosen as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in People (2000) and People en Espanol (1999, 2004, 2005).
