Meirelles’ O2 in television pact

Agreement renewed for additional three years

RIO DE JANEIRO — Helmer Fernando Meirelles’ indie production company O2 Filmes and local No. 1 net TV Globo have renewed their production agreement for an additional three years.

O2 will make the fourth and last season of series “Cidade dos homens” (City of Men) for Globo and will produce two other shows, an O2 spokesman said. Globo plans to air “City of Men” in the second half of this year. The series is a spinoff of “City of God,” Meirelles’ pic that received four Oscar nominations in 2004.

One of the projects will reportedly be another skein. Helmer Roberto Moreira, whose debut pic, “Up Against Them All” (film honoree at the 2004 Rio Film Festival), was produced by O2, will likely direct the new series.
