‘Last Comic’ laffs at ABC

Web inks talent holding/development deal with Heffron

John Heffron was NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” — but now he’s sitting down to develop a sitcom for ABC and Touchstone.

Alphabet and its sister studio have inked Heffron to a talent holding/development deal. Six-figure pact calls for the studio to either develop a project for Heffron or cast him in another project.

If Heffron ends up in a project specifically developed for him, manager Peter Rosegarten will serve as a producer.

As part of his reward for winning the second installment of the Peacock’s 2004 hit “Comic,” Heffron landed a development deal with NBC and its sister studio. Net ultimately didn’t move forward with a project, leaving Heffron free to pursue other possibilities.

It didn’t help matters that NBC decided to rush a third installment of “Comic” just weeks after Heffron won the title. Heffron didn’t win the next competition, making his reign as the “Last Comic Standing” impossibly brief.

Heffron has been touring virtually nonstop for the past 65 weeks.
