'Apprentice,' 'Stewart,' 'Rock Star' to fall under banner

The Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees has unionized about 80 picture editors and assistants working on a trio of Mark Burnett reality shows: “The Apprentice,” “The Apprentice: Martha Stewart” and “Rock Star: INXS.”

The organizing drive, conducted by IATSE and its Motion Picture Editors Guild Local 700, was capped by an agreement to count union authorization cards. The cards were counted Friday by a neutral third-party arbitrator.

The shows join “Big Brother” and “Queer Eye” as well-known reality productions under the IATSE banner. Tris Carpenter, national organizer for the Editors Guild, led the drive.

“This effort is part of our continuing commitment to organize reality television,” said MPEG exec director Ronald G. Kutak.
