O'Hurley pacts with GRB for skein

The afterglow from ABC summer smash “Dancing With the Stars” lingers on for thesp John O’Hurley, who has inked a deal to topline his own unscripted skein.

GRB Entertainment, producer of Fox summer skein “Princes of Malibu,” has pacted with O’Hurley to develop and produce a similar unscripted laffer. Brant Pinvidic will create and exec produce the project, which GRB will pitch to nets in the next few weeks.

Deal coincides with GRB’s promotion of Pinvidic to senior VP of development, reporting to company prexy-CEO Gary Benz. He’s also extended his contract for another year.

Pinvidic, who exec produces “Princes,” had been VP.

Untitled O’Hurley project will explore his everyday life, including his role as a partner in the real-life J. Peterman Co. Before “Stars,” O’Hurley was best known for playing the fictional Peterman on “Seinfeld.”

“We’re going to do an unscripted comedy playing on John’s improv skills,” Pinvidic said. “Everybody who watched ‘Dancing’ could see he’s a really genuinely funny person. We want to give him a chance to use those skills.”

Should a network pick up the O’Hurley project, it would rep the latest example of reality breakout stars snagging their own skeins. VH1 has ordered several shows featuring the stars of its “Surreal Life,” while Bravo recently announced a spinoff special starring the winner of “Project Runway.”

In addition to launching “Princes of Malibu” and setting up the O’Hurley deal, Pinvidic and GRB have quietly landed a pilot commitment from Fox Broadcasting. Net and GRB are keeping details of the potential skein under wraps, but Pinvidic did say it would revolve around families.

Before joining GRB a year ago, Pinvidic was a producer at New Wave Entertainment, heading up unscripted development.

“In a very short period of time, he has established great relationships with all the networks and has solid connections throughout Hollywood,” Benz said.
