CBS names legal chief as it preps for split

Legal eagle Briskman bats an Eye

NEW YORK — CBS topper Leslie Moonves has named Louis Briskman general counsel in a move that helps build out the executive suite for CBS Corp. as it prepares to separate from Viacom.

Briskman will head up the legal departments of all divisions being placed under the CBS banner, including the Eye net, UPN, Viacom Television Stations Group, Paramount Television, King World, Simon & Schuster, Showtime and Paramount Parks.

After the split, Briskman will become chief legal officer of the new company.

Briskman served as general counsel of CBS Corp. before its merger with Viacom in 2000.

He joined Westinghouse Electric in 1975; Westinghouse acquired CBS in 1995 and changed its name to CBS Corp.
