CANNES — Making its presence felt at the Mip TV mart, Canal Plus announced Tuesday it has upped a multi-window output deal with Spyglass Entertainment through December 2009, and also unveiled a slate of new fiction and docu acquisitions.
Spyglass deal gives the paybox access to films including “The Pacifier,” the upcoming “The Legend of Zorro,” “Memoirs of a Geisha” and “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” for its premium channel and other movie thematic channels.
Pact grants pay-per-view, VOD, and first- and second-window pay TV rights as well as an additional window after expiration of the free TV window.
Canal Plus has agreed to co-produce with the BBC “After Life,” a six-part paranormal drama to be screened in the U.K. in the fall, and in France in 2006.
The paybox has also licensed two-parter “Sex Traffic” about prostitution in Europe, produced by Granada for Channel 4, and the Sylvester Stallone reality skein “The Contender,” which it will start airing in June.
Docus include C4’s “The Lost Leonardo,” about the search for a missing work by Leonardo Da Vinci; and five natural history co-productions with the BBC including the 4×50 “Wild Caribbean,” about the region’s freak weather and other natural disasters.
