Cabler has ordered up eight one-hour episodes
ABC Family has greenlit its third original drama, “Kyle XY,” from Touchstone TV and writer exec-producers Eric Bress and J. Mackeye Gruber.
Cabler has ordered up eight one-hour episodes that center on a suburban family that takes in a mysterious teen naive to the world around him. Show is set for a summer 2006 premiere.
Chris Bender, J.C. Spink and David Himmelfarb also will exec produce. Matt Dallas, Marguerite McIntyre, Bruce Thomas, April Matson and Jean-Luc Bilodeau star.
Pilot was one of three one-hours under series consideration for next year (Daily Variety, May 26). Other drama pilots in the mix are Seth Freeman’s “Balancing Act,” about a cop trying to make a difference in the inner city, and “Three Moons Over Milford,” about a small East Coast town located beneath a falling comet that could destroy their world at any moment. Latter is from Holly Goldberg Sloan and Gary Rosen.
ABC Family is already committed to a second season of “Wildfire,” the first scripted effort to launch under the direction of ABC Family topper Paul Lee (Daily Variety, Aug. 16). Lions Gate TV-produced skein follows the struggles of a young woman who, after serving time in a juvenile detention center, is given a fresh start on life working with horses on a family-run ranch. New episodes will likely bow first quarter next year.
A decision is still pending on another cycle of Sony Pictures TV-produced mother-daughter drama “Beautiful People,” which drew modest ratings over the summer. Cabler is also still mulling a number of comedy pilots that could move forward by 2006.
