Crystal, Lucy awards honor women in the industry
HOLLYWOOD — Two can be better than one, and three’s not always a crowd.
That was the ticket Friday at Women in Film’s 2005 Crystal & Lucy Awards at the BevHilton, dubbed “An Evening Celebrating Partnership,” which celebrated creative alliances in film (Crystals) and TV (Lucys).
First up for Crystals were Sandra Bullock and her sister, Gesine Prado.
The duo said they will share the nod with every woman at Fortis, their 10-year-old production shingle. “They really should be up here tonight,” Bullock said, “but they don’t sell tabloids … so tough shit!”
“And how about that Jamie Foxx,” continued Bullock, “he can do anything. Tonight, he’s a Woman in Film honoree.” (Foxx was feted along with manager Jaime Rucker King and attorney Nina Shaw.)
“Will & Grace” dynamic duo Debra Messing and Megan Mullally were handed Lucys by Camryn Manheim.
“This should be called the Lucy and Ethel Award,” Manheim told the aud. “It took 50 years to find another duo as powerful, ridiculous and utterly shameless as them.”
After getting a friendly grope from Mullally (in effort to prove the secret to good teamwork is “complete trust”), Messing thanked WIF for acknowledging just how “fucking funny” women can be.
