‘Weather’ blowing in

Cage pic rolls into Gotham for preem

WHAT: Par’s “The Weather Man” preem Monday

WHO: Pic’s Nicolas Cage, Michael Caine, Hope Davis and Nicholas Hoult; director Gore Verbinski; scribe Steven Conrad; plus producer Todd Black

WHERE: Screening and after-party unspooled at the Time Warner Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall.

LATE BLOOMER: Pic, originally slated for an April 2005 release, was delayed, according to Black, for two reasons: Cage’s lack of availability to perform PR duties in April; and a few early reviews that suggested the film would play better in the fourth quarter.

IF THE SHOE FITS: Cage plays a Chicago-based weatherman whose life is in complete disarray. Conrad, a Chicago native, explained how he chose the unusual occupation.

“I thought (the main character) has to have a job — but what job could he have that doesn’t leave him satisfied?” Conrad explained. “I thought about the guy on the news who does the weather and is not even a scientist. It just seemed to fit.”
