Verna Chilton

Stage actress

Stage actress Verna Chilton died Oct. 9 in Sierra Madre, Calif. of a heart attack. She was 68.

The Los Angeles native appeared last month in “The Front Page” at the Sierra Madre Playhouse, where she also served on the board of directors.

Chilton appeared onstage in “The Royal Family,” “Moon Over Buffalo” and “Lend Me a Hand” at Sierra Madre and on various stages across the Southland since retiring from her post as professor of education at Cal State L.A. 15 years ago.

She is survived by a son, a daughter, and a sister.
