'Cronicas' bows at the N.Y. screening series

NEW YORK — Tuesday was a celebration of multinational collaboration when “Cronicas” unspooled as part of Variety’s Gotham Screening Series.

Pic is the product of Mexican producers, an Ecuadorian director, plus a pan-American cast and crew — but not everyone had the same level of Spanish fluency.

Post screening, Colombian-born John Leguizamo confessed to needing an English copy of the script, recounting that his own language skills had atrophied so much.

“I couldn’t read it in Spanish — well I could read it, but I wouldn’t understand it,” he said.

Evening’s tight sked required a lot of cross-town commuting: post Q&A, pic’s principals (including producer Alfonso Cuaron just in from London) made a mad dash to the pic’s premiere at the Angelika and after-party at Aer.
