'White' night falls on B'way
NEW YORK — The chatter ranged from the serious to the silly at the opening-night soiree for Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s latest Broadway tuner, “The Woman in White.”The toast of the party, held at Tavern on the Green on Thursday, was Maria Friedman, the British thesp who’s still performing in the lead role despite recent surgery for breast cancer. “I’m beyond proud of her,” said Sonia Friedman, producer of “Woman” and Maria’s sister. “Whatever happens to the show, New York saved my sister. That’s the important thing, isn’t it?”
