Televisa crazy about ‘Lunnis’

Mexican giant picks up RTVE flagship show

MADRID — Latino media giant Televisa has taken Mexican rights to Spanish pubcaster RTVE’s flagship production at Mipcom, the children multiformat program “Los Lunnis” (The Lunnis).

Televisa’s child-targeted Canal 5 will broadcast in primetime the series “The Lunnis,” the movie “Los Lunnis en la tierra de los cuentos,” and daily videoclips “We’re Going To Bed!” and “Despierta ya!”

Televisa is also studying the possibility of buying “El curso de Ingles” and “Quijote Lunnis.”

Deal was sealed last Friday in Madrid on the eve of Mipcom by Televisa’s exec v.p., Jose Baston, and RTVE’s commercial director, Juan Jesus Buhigas.

A social phenomenon in Spain, the umbrella show “The Lunnis” is into its third season on RTVE’s terrestrial channel La 2, and is also aired on TVE’s Canal Internacional. Bedtime ditty “Let’s Go to Bed With the Lunnis” topped Spanish music charts and DVD “Los Lunnis en la tierra de los cuentos” sold near 230,000 units last Christmas.

Though “The Lunnis” airs on seven channels in Europe and Latin America, per Eladio Jareno, director of TVE’s children pro-gramming, this accord opens up the Ibero-American market. The next objectives are the Hispanic US and the European TV market, he added.

“The Lunnis” is also a standout feature of TVE’s new DTT kids channel, Clan TVE, which launches Nov. 30.
