Tailor-made ‘Jacket’

Brody-Knightley effort bows in H'wood

HOLLYWOOD — At Monday’s ArcLight preem of Warner Independent and Mandalay’s “The Jacket,” director John Maybury imparted his view of the relationship between helmer and audience.

“Audiences are as intelligent as you treat them,” said Maybury. “And it is my job to treat audiences intelligently.”

Pic’s Keira Knightley told Daily Variety that her role — a troubled, hard-edged American youth — was a welcome challenge.

“The entire point of being an actress is to try and change characters as much as possible,” said the Brit thesp. “This was an opportunity for me to play a character that I had never played before, and to do an American accent.”
