Auds treated to cabler freebie
NEW YORK — Showtime will share its programming lineup during the upcoming weekend with 35 million nonsubscribers.
For the first time in more than two years, Showtime will offer a free preview to cable and satellite subscribers of such events as the premiere episode of the network’s high-visibility original sitcom “Fat Actress,” starring Kirstie Alley; the March 5 concert special “One Night One Star: Usher Live”; and a Castillo-Diaz lightweight boxing match, also on March 5.
Showtime senior VP Geoff Rochester said that, in addition to the Showtime network, nonsubscribers will have free access to Showtime on Demand during the preview period. Showtime on Demand offers a full menu of movies, series and specials with full VCR capability.
Showtime sister net MTV will carry a live behind-the-scenes pre-show simulcast at 8:30 p.m. on March 5 as a lead-in to the Usher concert.
Throughout the weekend of programming, on-air hosts will be urging non-Showtime subscribers to sign up, offering as a bonus a $25 gift card to any Apple retail store.
