Oz reality skein to air this year
SYDNEY — Oz commercial terrestrial broadcaster Seven Network is producing a local version of hit Japanese reality skein “Dragon’s Den,” in which would-be entrepreneurs pitch an idea or invention to a panel of successful businessmen.
“Dragon’s Den” was broadcast on Nippon Television and has been adapted by BBC2 in Blighty.
The businessmen — known as dragons in Japan — decide how much money they want to invest in the ideas from their own pockets.
Oz skein, which begins production this month and will air this year, is produced by Seven Prods., whose reality shows “Border Security” and “True Stories” have been ratings successes.
Skein bears a striking resemblance to Simon Cowell’s “The Million Dollar Idea,” which ABC picked up Stateside. Cowell is being sued by Roaring Entertainment, creators of an existing show called “Million Dollar Idea,” accusing him of stealing the name and the concept.
Peter Jones, a panel member on Blighty’s “Dragon’s Den,” helped Cowell develop “Million Dollar Idea.”
