Revelin’ in the rain

Connelly thriller bows in Gotham

NEW YORK — Disney easily could have passed off the “Dark Water” premiere’s after-party at the Garden of Ono Monday as a New York nightlife-themed version of Splash Mountain.

The bar’s patio had gaps in its overhang, causing rain to splatter intermittently and unexpectedly upon sushi-munching partygoers. Their annoyance was often followed by a begrudging smile at how the swanky lounge managed to mimic the leaky apartment that so troubles Jennifer Connelly‘s character in the film.

Ironically, art imitated life for Connelly during lensing.

Walter (Salles) came over to my house one day for a rehearsal and a few days later my whole house flooded,” she said.

Among those who were rained on at the fete were helmer Salles; producer Bill Mechanic; thesps John C. Reilly, Tim Roth and Ariel Gade; scribe Rafael Yglesias; and Connelly’s husband, Paul Bettany.
