NBC publicity director Jim Dowd is hanging out his own shingle, opening a Gotham-based praisery whose first clients include Mark Burnett and Donald Trump.
The Dowd Agency will initially specialize in entertainment PR but will also bring in clients from other arenas as well as offer brand enhancement and crisis communication. Dowd will serve as CEO.
Burnett has previously been without personal PR representation. As for Trump, Dowd will rep the mogul only as it relates to his work on “The Apprentice” and Web site for Trump University.
During his past three years at the Peacock, Dowd did publicity for “The Apprentice” and its Martha Stewart spinoff. He also worked on the “Law & Order” franchise, “The Restaurant,” “Last Call With Carson Daly” and the Miss Universe pageant.
Dowd said working with Burnett, Trump and Stewart — all known for their entrepreneurial skills –inspired him to leave the Peacock nest.
Other Dowd Agency clients include former “Apprentice” cast member Raj Bhakta and Chi-based Internet sales company Receller.
