Taylor catches 'Early Bird'
Annie Potts is returning to ABC, joining the pilot “Red & Blue,” while thesps Erin Hershey Presley (“Will & Grace”) and Renee Taylor (“Alfie”) have also picked up pilot gigs.
Potts will play a character created with the actress in mind — the sassy Southerner Annie — on “Red & Blue.” Touchstone TV pilot revolves around a family of conservatives and liberals living under the same roof.
Potts starred in the Alphabet web’s short-lived TV version of “Dangerous Minds.” Best known for her turns in the “Ghostbusters” features and on CBS’ “Designing Women,” Potts has more recently recurred on the Eye’s “Joan of Arcadia” and Showtime’s “Huff.”
Potts also led Lifetime’s series “Any Day Now” and lent her voice as Little Bo Peep in “Toy Story.”
Presley, meanwhile, will star as Jane, a recent college grad and neighbor to Brenda Bleythn’s character in ABC’s untitled Holly Hester project.
Pilot, from NBC Universal TV Studio, Touchstone TV and Conaco Prods., stars Blethyn as a woman who gets divorced and changes her life.
Presley earned two Daytime Emmy noms as a cast member of “Port Charles.” She also guested this season on “All of Us.”
Taylor has been cast in “Early Bird,” NBC’s comedy pilot about a young man who moves into a retirement home. NUTS produces.
Taylor’s other credits include “The Nanny,” “61*,” “Dr. Dolittle 2” and “Dream On.”
In other casting news, Alan Dale (“The OC”) has joined the cast of the WB’s “Bow” pilot; Kiele Sanchez has been added to NBC’s “Four Kings”; Amy Hill will guest on ABC’s “Hot Properties”; Colby Paul and Courtney Burness are new to NBC’s “House of Cards”; and Evan Ellingson is new to the WB’s Camryn Manheim project.
