The U.K.’s Paramount Comedy channel has snapped up exclusive rights to “Stacked,” the sophomore comedy featuring Pamela Anderson, and to the Darren Star exec-produced series “Kitchen Confidential” from Fox.
It also has “Everybody Hates Chris” and “Everything I Know About Men” from the channel’s sister distribution unit, Paramount Intl. TV.
The sitcoms will launch on Paramount Comedy in 2006.
The U.K. is a particularly difficult market for American shows, with only a few making it onto the five terrestrial stations. Others end up on satellite-delivered cable channels, but many remain unsold.
All four series were pitched at the recent L.A. Screenings, and the deals were concluded in the weeks following. No pricetag was available, but typically a sitcom goes for $60,000-$80,000 per episode in the U.K. market.
Unlike American networks, which continue to lament the sorry state of new laffers in the U.S., Paramount Comedy execs found things to smile about.
“The quality of comedy from the screenings this year was extremely high, and I had a most entertaining shopping spree. Each of these four shows complements our schedule and will support our position as the only U.K. channel dedicated to comedy,” said Paramount Comedy managing director Heather Jones.
