NEW YORK — Driven to generate the biggest possible audiences, cable networks tend to jealously guard the premiere date of their original movies.
But Oxygen Media has signed a deal with Time Warner Cable that will give TW’s video-on-demand subscribers a rare full week of free previews (June 17-23) to “Nadine in Date Land,” a romantic comedy starring Janeane Garofalo, before Oxygen’s first network primetime play on June 25.
TW and Oxygen will promote the early availability of the movie to VOD customers in cities including Los Angeles, Houston, Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Cincinnati.
Both companies are eager to entice more people into sampling the on-demand platform, convinced that viewers will love the freedom from the quirks of network scheduling and enjoy the convenience of being able to fast-forward, rewind or pause the movie.
Oxygen also kicks off two new free VOD program services this month on TW, Air Karaoke and Oh! Baby, both aimed at women 18-49.
Lisa Gersh Hall, president and chief operating officer of Oxygen Media, and Robert G. Benya, senior VP of on-demand for TW Cable, engineered the “Date Land” deal.
