DeLuise finds 'Play Mates'
“Frasier” alum Jane Leeves has joined the cast of the WB’s “Best Laid Plans,” while David DeLuise (“Gilmore Girls”) will star in ABC’s “Play Mates.”
Meanwhile, Diedrich Bader (“Miss Congeniality 2”) has joined Fox’s untitled Oakley/Weinstein pilot, while Benjamin King (“Saving Jessica Lynch”) will join the cast of CBS’ “Stroller Wars.”
Also on the casting beat Thursday, Mariel Hemingway has been added to the WB’s “The Prince.”
Leeves will play Amanda on “Best Laid Plans,” a mother who had a daughter via an anonymous sperm donor. Show revolves around Leeves and her daughter, whose lives change when Leeves finds the donor.
Twentieth Century Fox TV and Imagine TV are behind the comedy pilot. Leeves spent 11 seasons as Daphne Moon (later, Crane) on “Frasier.” She also had recurring roles on “Murphy Brown” and “Seinfeld,” and has appeared in features such as “Music of the Heart.”
DeLuise, meanwhile, has booked the role of Billy in “Play Mates,” which revolves around three couples who meet in a baby class.
Warner Bros. TV is behind the show. DeLuise recently guested on “Blind Justice,” as well as “CSI:NY” and “Las Vegas.”
Bader will star as Det. Lt. Peter Fontaine in the Oakley/Weinstein pilot, which revolves around an ensemble at the Times Square police precinct. NBC Universal TV and Broadway Video produce.
Bader is best known for his long-running stint as Oswald on “The Drew Carey Show.” His feature credits include “Napoleon Dynamite” and “Office Space.” He starred this season in the short-lived CBS laffer “Center of the Universe.”
King, meanwhile, will play Russell in the tentatively titled “Stroller Wars,” also known as the untitled Goldsmith/Yuspa project. Sony Pictures TV produces.
Then there’s Hemingway, who’ll play Beverly on “The Prince.” The Warner Bros. TV/Fort Hill/Berlanti-Liddell sudser revolves around a rich father and his son.
Hemingway’s recent credits include the telepics “See Arnold Run” and “First Shot.” She’ll next be seen in “Time of Change.”
In other casting news, Melinda McGraw (“Center of the Universe”) will play Leslie on the ABC pilot “Neighbors” (from Touchstone TV). She’s also about to recur on “Desperate Housewives.”
Also, Kurt Fuller (“Carnivale”) will play Walter, husband to Marilu Henner, on the ABC half-hour comedy pilot “Joint Custody.” He’ll next be seen in the feature “Mr. Woodcock”; other credits include the features “Ray” and “Anger Management.”
New to the cast of the NBC pilot “All In” (from Warner Bros. TV) are Geoff Pierson (“That ’80s Show”) as Harvey, and Jackie Debatin (“Amy’s Orgasm”) as Marilyn. Also, Jonah Lotan (“The Jacket”) will play Ben on NBC’s “Four Kings,” also from Warner Bros. TV.
