HOLLYWOOD — NBC Universal has inked an exclusive multiyear distribution agreement for terrestrial and basic cable TV rights to a wide selection of U’s movies and series with Broadmedia Studios in Japan.
Broadmedia becomes NBC U’s exclusive TV distrib for these titles in Japan. No figure was available for the value of the deal.
The Japanese are big fans of American movies, but Yank TV shows typically end up on satellite rather than terrestrial channels.
“The Scorpion King,” “Red Dragon,” “2 Fast 2 Furious,” “The Bourne Identity” and “Bridget Jones’s Diary” are part of the deal. “Columbo” and “Law & Order” are also part of the U product made available to Broadmedia.
Broadmedia is a wholly owned subsid of the conglom Softbank and distributes programming to terrestrial and satellite channels in Japan.
