NBC programs new exec

O'Connell gets Gotham gig at Peacock

Katie O’Connell has joined NBC to head up its newly created New York programming department.

O’Connell moves over from Imagine TV, where she served as exec VP of development and current programming. In the new gig, O’Connell will oversee program development from the East Coast, serving as senior VP of New York development for NBC Entertainment. She’ll also handle some current program duties out of New York.

Decision to create an exec position to scout Gotham talent was part of a larger Peacock restructuring in which comedy and drama teams were divided between execs focusing on inhouse NBC U wares and execs handling projects from outside suppliers (Daily Variety, March 14).

O’Connell will report to NBC’s Ghen Maynard, exec VP of primetime development.

“She will be instrumental in cultivating the East Coast’s immense pool of creative talent that can often be lost under the radar in Los Angeles,” said NBC Entertainment prexy Kevin Reilly.

O’Connell will focus on comedy, drama and alternative series. She’ll also work closely with New York-based NBC talent from “Saturday Night Live,” including Lorne Michaels, and “Late Night With Conan O’Brien.” Both Michaels and O’Brien have production deals with NBC.

O’Connell spent five years at Imagine, developing series such as Emmy winner “Arrested Development.” She also worked “24,” “Quintuplets,” “The Inside” and “The PJs.”

Her credits also include serving as director of comedy development at CBS, working on “The King of Queens” and “Yes, Dear.”
