MTV bows Nick net in Portugal

24-hour channel will reach around 100,000 households

MADRID — MTV Networks Intl. launched kids channel Nickelodeon Wednesday on Portugal’s Funtastic Life digital cable platform, owned by leading local cable operator TV Cabo.

The 24-hour, Portuguese-language net is programmed for kids 4-14 and will reach around 100,000 households.

Nickelodeon Portugal is the 12th Nick channel in Europe. Nick Jr bowed in Holland in February and Nick Turkey in May. Nick Germany is due to launch in September.

The ad-supported service expands MTV Networks’ portfolio in Portugal, which includes the 24-hour terrestrial channels MTV Portugal and VH1, as well as digital webs MTV Hits, MTV Base, MTV 2 and VH1 Classic.
