Confab hit a new record in terms of participating companies

The 21st Mipcom trade show in Cannes, which wrapped Oct. 21, attracted 11,704 delegates — up 7% on 2004 and second only to the 11,786 professionals who attended in 2000.

The five-day sales bazaar hit a new record in terms of participating companies as 3,919 from 93 countries attended the market, 11% up on last year’s 3,522 companies.

In addition, the recent Mipcom welcomed 3,504 program acquisition heads in comparison to 3,268 in 2004; the number of buyers present in Cannes climbed 7%.

Paul Johnson, director of Reed Midem’s television division, said that these figures reflect “the steady growth and evolution of the audiovisual industry.”

Directly preceding the main trade show, Mipcom Jr. and its results highlighted the importance of youth programming. The 13th edition attracted 512 companies in comparison to 417 in 2004, an increase of 23%. Over the course of two days, 462 new shows (out of 839 programs) were presented.
