Louis-Dreyfuss takes another sitcom run

'Seinfeld' star pilots 'Christine' for Eye net

“Seinfeld” vet Julia Louis-Dreyfus is taking another stab at the sitcom world, signing on to star in the CBS pilot “Old Christine.”

Meanwhile, “Angel” heartthrob David Boreanaz has joined the cast of Fox’s drama pilot “Bones,” while Stuart Townsend (“Head in the Clouds”) and Gabrielle Union (“Deliver Us From Eva”) will lead the ABC’s remake of “Kolchak: The Night Stalker.”

Also Thursday, Jane Curtin (“3rd Rock From the Sun”), Fred Savage (“The Wonder Years”) and William Devane (“The West Wing”) were set to star in ABC’s laffer pilot “Crumbs,” while Don Johnson (“Nash Bridges”) signed on to star in the WB’s untitled Bruckheimer/Shapiro drama.

On the pilot front, Fox has greenlit the Alicia Silverstone starrer “Queen B,” which comes from “Everybody Loves Raymond” scribe Jennifer Crittenden. Imagine TV and 20th Century Fox are behind the show, which stars Silverstone as a successful woman who slowly realizes people don’t perceive her the way she’d like them to (Daily Variety, Oct. 29). Crittenden, David Nevins and Brian Grazer exec produce.

As for Louis-Dreyfus, thesp will star as Christine, a divorcee looking to improve her life and the life of her 9-year-old son, in the CBS laffer. Kari Lizer exec produces the Warner Bros. TV project.

Louis-Dreyfus most recently guested on several episodes of “Arrested Development.” She also starred in the short-lived NBC sitcom “Watching Ellie.”

Boreanaz will star as an FBI agent in “Bones,” his first major role since “Angel” left the airwaves last year. Procedural drama revolves around the work of a female forensic anthropologist.

“We were looking for a guy’s guy,” said exec producer Hart Hanson. “David is so grounding, and he has that old-time movie star force going for him.”

Also joining the cast is Michaela Conlin (“The D.A.”) as Angela. Hanson and Barry Josephson exec produce the 20th Century Fox TV drama.

As for “Night Stalker,” Townsend is aboard as the lead character, a newspaper reporter who investigates spooky phenomena. Union plays his partner.

Frank Spotnitz exec produces “Night Stalker” for Touchstone TV. Townsend’s other credits include films “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and “Trapped,” while Union was seen in “Breakin’ All the Rules” and “Bring It On.” She also hosted WB’s “Pepsi Smash” and guested on “Friends.”

On the “Crumbs” pilot, Curtin and Devane play parents who get divorced, forcing their estranged sons (one played by Savage) to run the family business.

Touchstone TV and Tollin/Robbins are behind the show, which will be exec produced by Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins, Joe Davola and Marco Pennette. Curtin’s other credits include “Kate & Allie,” while Savage starred in “Working” and Devane remains best known for “Knot’s Landing.”

Johnson’s been cast as the older lead lawyer on the WB’s untitled Jerry Bruckheimer/Jonathan Shapiro project, which revolves around a 17-year-old legal prodigy. Gig reps Johnson’s first series role since “Nash Bridges” went off the air four years ago. Thesp is best known for his career-making turn on “Miami Vice.”

Bruckheimer, Shapiro and Jonathan Littman are exec producing the WBTV pilot for the Frog.

Also on the casting tip, Josh Hopkins (“Ally McBeal”), who last year starred in the unsold Frog pilot “Global Frequency,” is now set to star opposite Rebecca Romijn in the Frog drama pilot “Pepper Dennis,” from 20th Century Fox TV. Aaron Harberts, Gretchen Berg and Shawn Levy exec produce.

In other pilot news, Philip Levens (“Smallville”) has joined UPN’s “South Beach” pilot as an exec producer. He’ll write the pilot along with original creator (and co-exec producer) Matt Cirulnick.
