Island to host historical film fest

World Brief

A&E’s Spanish niche channel Canal Historia is teaming with Canary Islands orgs to launch the first Historical Film Festival of La Laguna, running Oct. 13-15 in Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands.

“The festival sets out to promote and popularize films with a historical content,” said fest director Teo Rios.

Event will host competitive sections for features, docus and shorts.

Competish players include “Poor Little Juan,” about Eva Peron’s brother, from vet Argentinean director Hector Olivera; Russian helmer Valery Ogorodnikov’s war drama “Red Sky, Black Snow”; and “Electric Shadows,” a coming-of-age film from Chinese femme helmer Xiao Jang.

Fest’s Time Machine retro focuses on the Second World War. A Fiction & Reality sidebar contrasts differing film visions of the Vietnam and Gallipoli conflicts.

Canal Historia is a joint venture between A&E Television Networks and Spain’s Multicanal.
