Variety wishes upon star

H'wood mag celebrates centennial

Variety received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Friday to mark the paper’s 100th anniversary.

Longtime Variety columnist Army Archerd, honorary mayor of Hollywood Johnny Grant and Variety publisher Charlie Koones were on hand for the unveiling.

Grant said he started reading Variety when he was 5 years old. When he first moved to Hollywood, he learned where the papers were dropped off by the delivery trucks; he made sure to be there when they arrived to see if he had made it in Hollywood by finally getting his name in print.
