'Concert for George' gets good opening

HOLLYWOOD — The Beatles played Beverly Hills Tuesday: Ringo Starr in person and Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison pictures filling the pages of “Concert for George” at a release party at the Taschen bookstore.

The $500 book, printed with gold and bronze inks and bound in silkscreened cloth, documents the Nov. 29, 2002, tribute concert to Harrison in London.

Harrison’s widow, Olivia Harrison, helped produce the 308-page limited edition complete with 450 photographs.

“It all evolved one day over lunch with Eric Clapton,” publisher Brian Roylance of Genesis Publications said in explaining his interest in the book. “Eric said, ‘Is anyone going to do a tribute concert?’ And I said, ‘No. Not unless you do.’ And so it went on from there.”
