Broadcaster's current management will stay intact
AMSTERDAM — Scandi-based Zodiak Television Group has increased its production capacity once again, with the acquisition of Finland’s Broadcasters Group.
Games and reality formats such as “Guillotine” have made Broadcasters, which cranks out 250 hours a year in titles, one of the more successful production outfits in the Nordic territories.
The deal, approved by shareholders, goes into effect June 1. It gives Zodiak 100% of Broadcasters in a deal in which payments to be made over the next four years are tied to performance. Current management will stay intact.
Zodiak is the latest incarnation of the Swedish holding company MTV Prods. The massive Stockholm-based Bonnier group is one of the largest shareholders in the company with a 24% stake.
Last year Zodiak picked up Jarowskij, a production group with offices in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.
Jacob Houlind, managing director of international distrib arm Zodiak Television World, notes that Broadcasters and its light entertainment brief “is a good fit” with Jarowskij Finland, which specializes in drama. He added Jarowskij Finland and Broadcasters would eventually merge and its content side merged with Zodiak ops in other Nordic territories.
