Basking in congratulations at Sunday’s after-bow bash for “Memoirs of a Geisha,” Col topper Amy Pascal shared the secret to keeping the passion alive during the long adaptation process: “Just like you do in a marriage, you keep going at it from all directions.”
Producer Doug Wick, who with wife and producer partner Lucy Fisher fell in love with the book even before it got on bestseller lists, said the easy part was to keep the ambition alive. He enthused about the his team’s ability to push the production design “to a strange world they’ve never been to.”
“That’s what you can do in a movie,” Fisher said, “transport to another world.”
Helmer Rob Marshall admitted he was afraid to undertake the project after “Chicago,” “but knew it’s a good sign. You have to stretch yourself.”
