Communications Minister Helen Coonan has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Oz’s “anti-siphoning” laws that keep big sports events on the free webs rather than feevees.

However, she suggested that the laws could be adjusted on a “use it or lose it” basis if the free-to-air channels did not buy the protected items on the list.

Anti-siphoning laws prevent “events of national importance and cultural significance” from being sold exclusively to feevee. List includes some 2,000 events.
