'Reba' man becomes a fixture
“Reba” exec producer Matt Berry won’t stray far from the show, sealing a new two-year deal with series producer 20th Century Fox TV.
In addition to sticking with “Reba” as exec producer, Berry will be tapped to develop skeins for the studio.
Twentieth Century Fox TV prexy Gary Newman said signing Berry to a deal was a “relatively easy decision for us” given the scribe’s work on “Reba,” which he called “inspired.”
“From a development standpoint, I think he’s somebody that people want to hear,” Newman said. “Matt will also attract a great piece of talent.”
Newman said he was particularly taken by the fact that Berry is “committed” to the traditional multicamera sitcom form, which is still in need of a good shot in the arm.
“He’s very seasoned, he gets the importance of setting up a character,” Newman said. “And as strong as he is in story and structure, he is also incredibly funny. And he’s great in punching things up as well.”
Berry has served as exec producer on “Reba” over the WB comedy’s past two seasons. He also exec produced NBC’s “Daddio.” His other credits include the ABC laffers “Sports Night,” “Ellen,” “Grace Under Fire” and “Roseanne.”
