‘Folk’ in home stretch

Showtime skein goes out with a bang

HOLLYWOOD — Showtime celebrated the fifth and final season of “Queer as Folk” Wednesday night.

Co-exec producer Daniel Lipman explained that he and co-exec producer Ron Cowen planned to end it this way. “Nobody is interested in seeing ‘Queer as Old Folk,’ ” Lipman said at the after-bash at the Cooley estate in Hancock Park. “I don’t feel that shows should go on endlessly. We wanted it to be edgy and in-your-face and not politically correct, and we didn’t want it to lose that.”
