Cruise missile shoots Oprah yakker higher

Thesp's appearance gives daytime diva big numbers

NEW YORK — Amid the hubbub over his romance with Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise’s interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” earned an overnight weighted metered-market rating of 9.4/22 share for primary runs.

Rating was the syndie yakker’s highest since the post-Oscars show Feb. 28 and highest for a May sweeps episode since May 1997, according to distrib King World.

Overall syndie ratings showed barely any movement in national numbers for May 9-15, the second full week of May sweeps, as 15 of the top 40 shows saw decreases while 12 saw increases and 13 were even.

Overall daytime viewing levels were up by less than one-tenth of 1%.
