A Munich court ruled Wednesday that RTL2 topper Josef Andorfer’s abrupt dismissal earlier this month was unlawful and ordered him to be reinstated.
It’s a major setback for RTL and Herbert Kloiber’s Tele Munchen Group, RTL2’s biggest shareholders.
Andorfer was forced out Feb. 1 after butting heads with RTL chief Gerhard Zeiler and Kloiber over the web’s direction. It is not clear if and when Andorfer will return.
His dismissal was an attempt to rein in the web: RTL2 had often aired competitive programming against its affil, leading German web RTL Television, and developed reality formats instead of buying from Tele Munchen, Germany’s biggest independent license dealer.
