Hollywood fundraiser collects $15 mil for Hurricane Fund
NEW YORK — Leaders of the Mississippi Hurricane Recovery Fund and sponsors of Mississippi Rising, a fundraising concert this past weekend in Oxford, Miss., featuring various Hollywood celebs, have collected $15 million since the fund was set up in early September.
Fund was established to raise money, goods and services to help Mississippians rebuild their communities in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Continued efforts include an online celebrity auction (www.auctioncause.com/charity) and celeb PSAs airing on all Comcast cable nets.
The Mississippi Rising concert was led by native Mississippians and event co-chairs Morgan Freeman, Faith Hill, Archie and Eli Manning, John Grisham, Brett Favre and Sela Ward, and included perfs and participation by Macy Gray, Delta Burke and Debbie Allen.
