Cariani goes from stage to scribe

Thesp John Cariani, nominated for a 2004 Tony for his performance in “Fiddler on the Roof,” will try his hand at writing for “Almost, Maine,” his romantic comedy that begins perform-ances at the Daryl Roth Theater Off Broadway Dec. 15.

Gabriel Barre (MTC’s “The Wild Party”) directs a cast of four toplined by Miriam Shor (“Hedwig and the Angry Inch”). Jack Thomas/Bulldog Theatri-cals produces the play, capitalized at $800,000.
