BBC America plays ball with ‘Wives’

'Footballer' skedded to bow July 17

NEW YORK — BBC America has acquired rights to British series “Footballers Wives.”

Net plans to put big marketing push behind the program, set to hit the channel July 17, with hopes to capitalize on the “Desperate Housewives” craze and has already started promoting the skein with a wink to that other series.

Deal is for first four seasons, 35 episodes, of the hourlong skein.

Program was bought from U.K. distrib Target TV and is made by Shed Prods. It first aired on ITV in 2002.
