ABC enlarges laff team

Hartwick new veep of comedy development

ABC is beefing up its comedy development team, adding Amy Hartwick as VP.

Hartwick comes to ABC from 20th Century Fox TV, where she was director of comedy. In her new gig, she’ll work with scribes and producers to nurture new laffers for the net, reporting to comedy topper Stephanie Leifer.

During her four-year run at 20th, Hartwick had a hand in developing or overseeing projects such as “The Simple Life,” “My Name Is Earl,” “Jake in Progress,” “Bernie Mac” and “Still Standing.”

“In filling this position, we wanted to make sure we brought in an executive with both great relationships and a real passion for comedy,” Leifer said of Hartwick, adding that “working across the table from Amy for a while” made it clear Hartwick would fit in well at ABC.

Hartwick came to 20th as manager of comedy in 2001 and was upped to director less than a year later. She began her career at New Line TV and was accepted in NBC’s associates program in 1999.
