A&E eyes east

History Channel and Biography programs go down a storm in Eastern and Central Europe

CANNES — AETN International, the foreign sales arm of A&E Networks, has inked program sales agreements with stations throughout Central and Eastern Europe in the run-up to Mipcom.

Ukraine’s STB has acquired 50 hours from the History Channel and Biography libraries, including the series “Decisive Battles” as well as the specials “Russia: Land of the Tsars” and “French Revolution.”

In Russia, Russian Report has acquired 54 hours from the History Channel library to air on REN TV and other broadcasters in the country. Among the acquisitions are the series “The Most” and “Vanishings.”

Channel One in Russia has licensed several Biography episodes, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Charlie Chaplin, George Lucas and Sylvester Stallone.

RLR has acquired 100 hours for broadcast in the Caucasus, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Georgia. The agreement includes 75 hours of Biography as well as the History Channel series “Modern Marvels” and “History’s Mysteries.”

In Romania, Antena 1 has acquired 50 hours from both the Biography skein and from the History Channel.

Finally, TVP2 in Poland has acquired the History Channel special “French Revolution” and the Biography special “Millionheirs.”
